The foot and ankle involves a number of joints & muscles. This region is designed for stability and to propel our bodies & to absorb shock when we walk, run & jump in all directions. Injury may cause pain, swelling and/or stiffness. This impacts on our ability to perform daily & high level activities.
Many of us leave ankle sprains to heal by themselves.
Unfortunately any ankle sprain is more than just an event. It is an episode of instability where the ligaments are stretched beyond their capacity.
This can allow trauma not only to the ligaments but also injury to the cartilage on the inside and back of the ankle in a high proportion of ankle sprains.
Swelling, pain and loss of function are common problems.
A sense of instability can occur where you can feel distrusting of your ankle when walking, running or side-stepping. Many people mention they are fearful of using their ankle and are unsure of their balance.
Early treatment of this injury is most effective in restoring function rapidly.
Persistent rolling of the ankle (instability) can limit confidence and function – you don’t have to settle for this.
At Active Care we use a combination of exercise + supports to restore confidence and function even at the highest levels of performance. We aim to get you back to doing what you love.
